The Wallet Security Ranking Mission
By providing an objective, easy-to-digest assessment, we help users to make informed decisions about which crypto wallet to use. At the same time, we push crypto wallet developers to meet the highest security standards, promoting a safer and more trustworthy Web3 ecosystem.
Now, let’s dive into the results, see which wallets came out on top, and what makes them a safer choice.
Top 5 Secure Crypto Wallets for iOS, Android, and Chrome
Three Ethereum-compatible crypto wallets emerged as the clear leaders across platforms in our ranking: MetaMask, Rabby Wallet, and Coinbase Wallet. The Chrome Extension version of those wallets achieved the highest overall scores across our four security checklists—dApp Permissions, Intent Verification, Physical Access, and Threat Prevention—demonstrating a robust approach to user safety and threat mitigation.
Metamask, Rabby, and Coinbase are also the leaders in mobile wallets, sharing the Top 5 with 1inch, Rainbow, imToken, Zerion, and OKX.
Why These Apps Made It to the Top: Wallets with higher security scores excel in the dApp Permissions category, where clear permissions interfaces give users precise control over dApp interactions, helping prevent unauthorized actions and unintentional transactions. These wallets enable features like token approval management to help users better control what they’re authorizing.
Metamask and Rabby also scored exceptionally in Intent Verification, giving users transparent, human-readable transaction summaries to minimize the risks of blind signing or phishing attempts.
However, we found that even the top-ranked wallets still have room for improvement. By implementing a few simple measures, these leading wallets could enhance their security scores, namely:
- Discouraging weak passwords with more emphasis.
- Adding an automatic wallet lock by default.
- Displaying more details in the dApp connection prompt.
- Enhancing detection of known threats.
