FAQ
-
Why is a wallet security ranking important for web3 users?
There was no easy way for users to check a wallet's security. So, we changed that. Our mission goes beyond protecting individual users – we want to fortify the entire crypto ecosystem. Safer wallets mean fewer successful attacks, building trust in the system and increasing adoption and innovation. -
Why are these four categories of security checks important?
Our test selection is based on over two years of intensive wallet security assessments. This extensive experience has given us a comprehensive view of the crypto wallet landscape and its vulnerabilities. Each check in our evaluation process is carefully crafted, drawing from our deep understanding of real-world attackers tactics and the current threats. We're not just creating a scoreboard; we're applying hard-earned insights from our behind-the-scenes work in wallet testing. Our criteria are designed to simulate genuine threats, focusing on the most prevalent and dangerous attack methods we've encountered. -
Will the wallet security ranking be updated?
We're committed to this project long-term. We update scores whenever wallet providers inform us of security improvements. We also conduct regular reviews to ensure our ratings stay current. -
How are the wallets in the ranking chosen?
We began with wallets listed on the Ethereum Foundation website, focusing initially on the Ethereum ecosystem. We applied our methodology to a diverse sample of wallets to maintain objectivity. Our goal is to expand our testing to include more wallets over time. If your wallet hasn't been tested yet, stay tuned – we're working on scaling up our evaluation process. -
Can a wallet's score change over time?
Absolutely. Scores can and do change. We're committed to helping wallet providers enhance their security. As vendors implement improvements based on our feedback, we reassess their wallets and update scores accordingly. -
How is the security score calculated?
Our testing process combines a comprehensive security checklist with real-world scenario simulations. We use custom tools to thoroughly evaluate each wallet across multiple categories, scoring test results from 0-100%. To ensure objectivity, we apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process for weighting different security aspects. Multiple testers assess each wallet independently and we then cross-compare results. -
Can a wallet provider get a full report?
Absolutely. We have extensive experience auditing wallets and have reported numerous security issues across multiple ecosystems through bounty programs and direct communication. Our work includes comprehensive wallet audits, providing in-depth security assessments and improvement recommendations. We actively collaborate with wallet teams to enhance their security measures. If you're a wallet provider looking to improve your security or interested in an audit, we encourage you to get in touch with us for personalized assistance and expert insights.
